Pennsylvanians push for immigration reform

On Behalf of | Feb 13, 2013 | Family Immigration, Firm News |

People across Pennsylvania are making their concerns about immigration heard as they prepare for a campaign to reform the immigration system. There were approximately two dozen organizations featured at a joint press conference earlier in the month in which they explained the need for appropriate immigration reforms.

The leader of this organizing campaign has said that one of the most important features of immigration reform is to stop breaking up families. As national lawmakers are discussing possible comprehensive reforms to the immigration system, some ideas leave immigration advocates worried that families could be temporarily or permanently ripped apart by the various paths to citizenship.

At the end of this organizing campaign, the various immigration groups and supporters plan on going to the nation’s capital in April as part of a nationwide call for immigration reform. It remains to be seen what will come from both this statewide and nationwide mobilization for a new immigration system.

It is undeniable that immigration issues are becoming increasingly important within Lancaster County and across the state. Whether it is something as controversial as looking at changing the system for people without the legal permission to be in the country to something as emotional as family-based immigration, knowledge of immigration law is increasingly important. Because the system can be so complex and difficult to understand, however, it is often important to work with an immigration attorney, as one mistake could have very serious consequences.

The Pennsylvania organizations participating in this mobilization effort are planning several different events to raise awareness of immigration issues in the next few months.
