Troy James Mattes has a special interest in immigration law matters. Before law school, Mr. Mattes spent three years in Gabon, Central Africa with the United States Peace Corps. During his time in Gabon, Mr. Mattes gained a unique knowledge of life in other countries. This insight contributes to his appreciation for his clients' special circumstances. He has recently had an article published in the Washington Post. The piece, titled "High Court to Consider Criminals Held by INS" was published in February of 2001. The article was instrumental in shedding light on the indefinite detention of immigrants, an important immigration issue that was considered by the U.S. Supreme Court in Zadvydas v. Davis, 533 U.S. 678 (2001).
Mr. Mattes graduated from Widener University School of Law and has a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Lancaster and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. He has served as an Arbitrator in the Lancaster Court of Common Pleas. He is capable in Spanish and fluent in French.
Mr. Mattes is admitted to practice in the State Courts of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
