Worker in another state facing immigration detention problems

Many working fathers in Pennsylvania are immigrants who came to the United States from other countries of origin. Some, like one man who works as a pizza deliveryman in another state, married U.S. citizens. Unfortunately, even going through the process to obtain green cards does not always prevent immigration detention problems from occurring as made evident by the pizza shop worker's situation.

The man lives with his wife and two daughters, all of whom are U.S. citizens. He was recently delivering pizza to a local military base as he has apparently done many times in the past. In fact, he says he went through the same process he always does, including showing his ID at the gate; however, this time, instead of being allowed to carry out his duties as usual, Immigration Customs and Enforcement agents were summoned. They took him into custody and requested his immediate removal.

Thankfully, an emergency stay was granted and the man is now being held at a detention facility. Such incidents often cause stress and worry among family members who fear they may never see their loved ones again. Immigrant advocates speaking on this man's behalf say he is a hard-working husband and father who had already taken steps to adjust his legal status; therefore, he should be granted immediate release. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo agrees; in fact, he wrote letters expressing similar views and requesting immediate investigation of the situation.

When a Pennsylvania immigrant is separated from his or her family, loved ones are often unaware of where he or she has been taken. This is one of many issues that can cause great upset and leave families feeling confused and overwhelmed. Such stress may be alleviated if those facing immigration detention problems know how to obtain support, such as by asking an experienced immigration attorney to review their case.
