Children seek protection from violence in the US

Immigration law is quite complex and many people can make simple mistakes that can be severely detrimental to their chances of staying in the country. This is why many people, whether seeking asylum or applying for an employment immigration visa, turn to immigration lawyers for help. While an adult would know to ask for legal help, a child might not. With the recent influx of children from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador making the long journey from their home countries to the U.S., there may be a considerable number of children not realizing the importance of working with an immigration lawyer.

Rupert Murdoch calls for a pathway to citizenship

Anyone who reads our blog knows that we follow the push for immigration reform quite closely. Unfortunately, not much has happened with immigration recently, as the House of Representatives refuses to take the issue up. Sadly, there are some who believe that immigration reform just won't happen in the final two years of the Obama administration after House Majority Leader Eric Canton's loss in his primary election. As someone who supported immigration reform, albeit halfheartedly, many conservatives are now scared to touch the issue.

Recent Supreme Court decision may force immigrant families apart

For those people in Lancaster who have never had to deal with the immigration system, they may think that everyone's applications are processed relatively quickly and that there isn't much wait to get an immigrant visa and, eventually, be approved for citizenship. Anyone who has dealt with the immigration system, however, is well aware that this is far from true. For some immigrants, depending on where they are from, they could wait years in the U.S. on a nonimmigrant visa before they are granted permanent residency.

Immigration reform is about more than a pathway to citizenship

The president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement in favor of immigration reform. While he appears to be most concerned with immigrants outside of the legal immigration system, immigration reform is about more than just creating a pathway to citizenship for these people. There are a number of people in Reading who are on student visas that will expire shortly after they graduate; many of them would like to see a method of granting them an employment-based immigration visa.
